Today is my sister's birthday. Amy and I are the only children in the family. We grew up ranging between extreme best friend closeness and extreme nemesis style fights. Any of you out there with a sister can understand I am sure!
Last year Amy and her husband moved to Boston. America. From Sydney. Australia. Far far away.
We have been quite close in adult life. I think once we weren't living under the same roof and could avoid all the stupid sister squabbles (where is the hair dryer, I want the bathroom, that is my skirt, do you have my makeup...) we were great.
The Amy's genius husband went and got him self a PHD. In astro-chemistry or some such nonsense. Then he went and got himself a job at Harvard University. The one in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
It is a bit of a commute from Sydney to Cambridge (about 20 hours or so via plan) so they up and moved to Boston last July.
To say I miss my sister is an understatement. We visited them in Boston for Christmas (and can I say thank you to the USA for turning on a beautiful White Christmas for us). We had a great time and we are planning another trip next year.
Well today is Amy's birthday! What with the time difference I have not been able to speak with her today. I have left messages!
Happy birthday Amy! We miss you and we love you. xx G and E
